E. G. Koch

Edwin Godfried Koch (1881 - 1950) was a well-known Burgher artist and photographer from the first half of the 20th century. Specializing in watercolors, Koch painted mostly landscapes. Famed Australian artist James Ashton who was a regular visitor to Ceylon commended Koch's talent for painting landscapes. In 1899 he exhibited with the Ceylon Art Society together with 16 other Burgher artists and 10 European artists. In 1928 Koch exhibited 24 paintings at the W. W. Beling Memorial Exhibition, Throughout his career, he showed his work regularly both in Ceylon and overseas. In later years, he ran a photography studio that specialized in weddings and portraits. An avid hunter and wildlife enthusiast, Koch painted many bird and wildlife scenes during the latter part of his career.
