William Henry Jan Cooke (1911-1977) was a Sri Lankan artist of Dutch Burgher heritage. A well known architect, Cooke exhibited with the ’43 Group and held several solo exhibitions during his career. This painting of a woman is Jan Cooke’s last painting and his homage to post-Impressionist Paul Gauguin.
