Katuwana Piyananda (born 1965) is a Buddhist monk and painter. Born Sisiraratne Liyanage into a farming family in Katuwana in the Southern Province, Piyananda became an ordained Buddhist monk at the age of 13. Mostly self-taught, Rev. Piyananda studied old temple paintings and books on European art to develop his own style. He first exhibited in 1984 and has since held many exhibitions in Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, and the Netherlands. His art reflects the philosophical teachings of the Buddha and contain dynamic messages in spiritual, inspirational and social terms.
